Sounds to me like the OP has some <...> friends.

^ That. 99.99%

Or a "friend" installed or tricked you into installing a keylogger and either guessed your account name or knows it, or was using a full remote desktop/admin program where they can see your desktop as you're typing in and could thus see your account name.

All that is pretty unlikely though as compared to the chances that you gave your info to someone at some point, and even if you changed your PWd they managed to guess your new one.

Also if you're on a WLAN that is unprotected both pwd & account name would easily be grabbed by anyone in your neighborhood who needs little more expertise then to Google for such software.

The more advanced information gatherers will even take screen shots when it detects the computer user entering a password.

Most use the term “Keylogger” in a generic form. It could be something as simple as a rudimentary keylogger that just records key strokes but the more advanced rootkit keyloggers, as well as recording key strokes, will sift through data files for credit card info, bank account info, any account login info as well as passwords.

While DAoC does pre-fill the account info so the user does not need to type it in, DAoC does not store the account name(s) in a very secure way. All DAoC does is to shift the account name by one character and then store it in the user.dat file under the heading “accounts=xxxxxx, yyyyyy, zzzzzz, etc. . .” where the account names "Hacked" and "stolen" would be saved as "accounts=Ibdlfe, tupmfo"

i type my account names in all the time, everytime I go from one account to the other when I dual log. I dunno I think some people install 2 separate games and run a separate one for each account, but I just use the same .exe.

I use one client and both of my accounts user names are in saved in the drop down box when I log in so I never have to type in the account name.

Soooo, if a hacker hacks into someones account, steals all of their gear/plat, destroys their account, Mythic never investigates or returns the poor guys stuff that the kackzor stole?

BUT! If said hacker uses a macro for crafting, stands on the side of a ledge (that for some reason is an exploit), or god forbid runs radar....BAM !! investigate and PERMABAN !!

Sheesh, I get emails from WoW about every 6 months letting me know that someone suspiciously logged into my WoW account, that I haven't played since week 3 of go live, but Mythic/EA could care less about their current paying customers?........

[colorurple]That is correct. [/color]

[colorurple]That is somewhat correct. But it does not need to be a hacker that cheats. Any cheat that Mythic catches Mythic will punish/warn them. . . . as it should be.

Macro crafting, last I heard, would simply get you a suspension and reset your crafting to zero. Standing where mobs can’t get at you may get you a warning or suspension (If you have been previously warned or suspended then you may end up getting a ban). Radar will get you a permaban . . . usually.

IMO Mythic’s policy on hacked accounts is about as stupid as could be. WoW/Blizzard has shown that it is better for the player(s) and the company to take a totally different view of hacked accounts. Blizzard will rebuild the account for the player and then go after the hacker. . . .and WoW is huge. Mythic will tell the player, “tough poop” and DAoC, though it is a better game than WoW, is dieing.

Mythic’s policy concerning hacked accounts was created by MJ and we all know how loved to be self-destructive with DAoC. [/color]

[colorurple]That is a Phishing scam and probably not actually from Blizzard. They are trying to get you to use one of the links in the email to access your account and the link will send you to a fake Blizzard web site.

or

if you allow your email to show you advertisements then just opening the email could infect your computer with one of those viruses/keylogger/rootkits that is imbedded in scripts/advertisements.

Yes Lawdawg lol.. pretty lame if you ask me. It's a shame that this game has been the best PvP/RvR game for the past decade and now they are messing it all up one patch at a time... csr's not doing anything... and im not just talking about my gear getting shafted either...

If you get "hacked", either...

1) You gave your account out and they jacked it

2) You were looking for hacks and downloaded a trojan/keylogger

3) Cant actually think of another, theres only 2 really common ways for it to happen

Odds are it is your fault and Mythic shouldnt have to babysit you for what you did. You can always /appeal, talk to a CSR and explain what happened, and have them tell you who got the items.

Since it was YOUR account that traded the items, the CSRs can and will tell you who you traded your items to. It wont get your items back, but it will let you possibly have an idea of who you should be ill towards (assuming they didnt make a random named lvl1 to trade with).

You could also SS the conversation with the CSR to call out said person incase it is someone who uses VN.

A CSR *might* even disclose the IP used when your account was cleaned, Ive never known anyone to ask though mythic always assumes it is YOU who logs on, they may give you the information since it should be readily available to you anyhow. If they do you can look up the IP to see if it is an area near you to see if narrows it down for you in the case its a new toon getting the loot.

In the end though you pay the $15 to play the game, how you take care of your things ingame is on you.
