You don't have to worry about the buffbot situation anymore. Realm buff npcs mean you can now get a full set of buffs with 2 hour duration (and which you can zone with) for a few gold. They aren't quite as good as buffbot buffs, but not far off. This means that all classes are viable, though some solo better than others of course.

Alb is overpopulated. Hib and Mid both need players. But play the class you enjoy rather than what you feel might be needed.

For someone new to the game and wanting some solo and group options, with some self speed, I'd choose Skald or Runemaster on Mid and Enchanter or Vampiir on Hib. These classes are all relatively straightforward to play and will allow you to learn the ropes.

If you can tolerate not having your own speed buff, Valkyrie and Shaman (Cave spec) on Mid and Eldritch and Mentalist on Hib are a lot of fun whilst remaining relatively straightforward.

While learning the game I would stay away from stealth classes (because stealth is a sub game all of its own with some pretty hardcore players), heavy tanks (because they are so group dependant) and full support (because all support is hard to master).

Have fun!

If you end up playing a Hib, let me know and I'll be happy to help any way I can.

Well thx maybe ill take ya up on that offer! Ive tried a few classes on the Alb side so Im gonna give Hibs a try.
Got the Friar to level 18, was pretty fun but not my style.

This is probably a dumb reason not to play Albs but the chars look pretty dumb, no offense to anyone! Also I want to play a realm that needs people.

Ill make a char on Hibs and post back with my char name.

Buffs are a moot point. Play what sounds like it would be the most fun for you.

people who cry about not having a bot, are antisocial or poor.

if you arent poor get a bot.

if you arent anti social, make some friends and find a guild, they will cover your buffs.

or play a self buff class, if it sounds fun to you.

at the end of the day, thers always a way to play without a 2nd account. but people like to dramatize everything.

If you're a real new player then try anything except Hib realm.
Because you'll have a lot of problems finding a grp there.
Also this is the most gimped realm.

I read a lot of "dont pick mage", but actually there is a handful of mages that are completely playable on realm buffs on hib and alb.

Or maybe they feel that *any* online game which requires you to run a second account to be competitive is poorly designed and flawed?

How? With their buffbots no doubt? Most *actively played* support classes are not full buff spec. So guilds use buffbots too. This means if you don't have your own buffbot you end up harassing someone else to give you buffs from their buffbot all the time, which ironically is rather antisocial and can cause friction.

Full buff spec shamans, clerics, druids etc are not a lot of fun to play, apart from the minority who get a kick out of buff shearing (probably the same people who get a kick out of nearsighting anything that moves). Other buff classes only have baseline buffs so you need to top them up with buffbot or realm buffs.

This is becoming more true with the new improved realm buffs. But it won't be fully true until realm buffs are as good as buffbot buffs.

Better still, remove all buff speclines from the game and give all classes the same self-buffing system that Vampiirs use. Problem solved.
