Just one or a few small things would go a looooooong way.

Melee DPS and/or survivability need to come up a bit. WeaponSkill and HP would be a good way to do that. A self or group AF chant would be a huge leg up.

Hammer needs some major love. All 3 lines should have a 40-50 delve dd anytime like Polar Rift does in sword.

Thane templates are hard mode, expert level, difficulty setting 11! 5-10% self pierce.

Other than being a squishy Bodyguard'er (compareably), ml's are basically wasted on a thane. Group endo chant moved to a toon that can use it (not overloaded with existing chants), like champions and friars have now. And Stormlord needs some love.

Energy debuff shouldnt break mezzes, roots, and snares but if it must... Then make a single target version.

RR5 revamp.

Not overpowering. Thanes still wouldnt be out-DPS'ing any caster in the game, and wouldnt have nearly the survivability of a tank. But they would be 100% more playable.

Did you know VW has no grp utility? (Not talking about MLs) They have 0 abilities that help their grp,

Immolation,AoE snare, BEDAZZLING AURA ,rr5 ablative and multiple interrupts.

HeyMadman posted:

they have 0 survivability as a melee class

You need to put down the crack pipe.

HeyMadman posted:

their spells suck on damage and there are many other things VWs have very bad in grp. That's called no love.
And Wardens just have NO damage. More like a joke. A walking PBT/Celerity bot.

VW's are hybrid class not a pure caster class also wardens offer a VAST amount of utility to a group including RESISTS, HoTs,GREATER HEALS,BG,TWF and shears wardens are one of the most amazing support classes in the game.

HeyMadman posted:

And about thanes:
Issue 1. They have guard, shield side styles, energy debuff. These things help the grp.
Issue 2. Damn, I really don't want to troll you on this one. Let's just say the are ways to template a thane, and it's not that hard as you think.
Issue 3. LOL. You have chain armor, you have shield, you have parry, you have engage, you have shield stuns, you have instas to interrupt incoming spells.

Please, at least learn what you can do on your class then QQ here. Many Hib classes can't even achieve a half of Thane's performance in rvr grp.

Thanes also have low hps,low WS,energy debuff while decent is slow casting and they do not have even close the survivability of say a VW'er.
I would love for you to name the hib classes that "can't even achieve a half of Thane's performance in rvr" ....

Now when it comes to BM's they need some lovin on the dps end of things but thanes need some lovin of their own as well.

I have a rank 11 warden,rank 8 and 6 VWer and a rank 5 Thane lol just a fyi.

Regardless of troll or not I'm still defending these classes!

VWs, wardens, thanes

I really don't like the idea of underplayed classes fighting each other to know who has it worse. Especially for thanes and VWs, whose problems are extremely similar.

If anything, thane and VW players should work together on defining the common problems of casting hybrids, because fixing two classes at once > fixing each one separately. But then again, the problem with VWs and thanes are more about BGs being left behind in RvR these days.

Agreed,

But vs some classes it is hard to even compare a thane to the classes' pet... (ie minstrel)

Considering utility or lack of, we should be comparing a thane (as they are) to a bainshee. But that's a laugh.

Bainshee, pure dps class with interupts and 1 limited use cc ability. Can be specc'd to DPS while in melee combat but usually has to kite.

Thane, a pure dps class (haha) with interupts and 1 limited use cc ability. Can be specc'd to DPS while in melee combat but usually has to kite.

Give them both a castable aoe disease that isn't on a reuse timer. I know the VW already has one if specced high enough but lets see both classes with aoe disease and maybe bring the thanes WS up or make a way to template both of them easier and they would both be groupable again.

VW already is groupable imo but not as much as many other classes on hib.

End reduc chant is a great way to do this also for mid/hib.

Once again a lot of bad information in a thread.
The current state of the game has SEVERAL classes that have no real role in an ideal 8man setup... but have some cool things when rolling small man/random setups.

VW's won't find a role in an ideal group because they don't have access to charge or stoicism, and because they have to drop from 50 scythe to have the instant disease, but to say they need love is crazy talk. A really cool class to smallman/solo on; because in a small man role they bring a lot to the table (instas, casting range, BG, huge dmg spikes). If you added anything to this class, it would auto FoTM them.

Thanes need love. As I said before, there's no doubt they need love. But not as dramatic as people keep making it out to be. Hits and maybe some WS, and all of a sudden you're looking at a relatively competitive class. Thanes are just as hard to template as other hybrids; no more, no less... I currently have a pretty beast template on mine, and have a lot of fun playing her. Again thanes are a pretty cool smallman class, and makes up one of the best run & gun trios in the game (Pac/RM/Thane).
So yes, they need love, but no, it shouldn't be one of those major revamps of the class.

Another suggestion thats been mentioned many times is including a self SP buff similiar to heretics buff that max's out at 50SC. This would aid in template making.

Thanes face the same problem every realm's non-popular classes face. Why invite any melee class, except savage/zerk/skald, to a Mid group? Why invite anything other than an arms/merc/pally to an Alb group? And to be fair nearly any melee class has trouble getting in most Alb groups because people just play casters and extend. Requires people you know or yourself to make a group in Alb to play a tank. Why invite anything other than a vamp/champ/BM to a Hib group?

Of the hybrids, it's the Thane and VW that is the most hard to template - for instance, a Paladin and Champion, they don't need(while it's still nice to have range for the instant spells) spell range, spell dmg, spellpierce, casting speed, 90-101 piety, 101dex - meaning they could easily get alot better templates then a Thane or VW. While Reavers gets a little harder then pally/champ, it's still not that hard(spell dmg, spellpierce, piety and dex - but casting range, and casting speed - as well as melee speed don't have to be 8-10%, nor must the quickness be high. The Heretic have it more challenging(but not on a Thane/VW level).

The other hybrids got it somewhat difficult to various degrees, but still easier - when it comes to "must haves - make the class potent".

Solo, duo, smallman and group wise, the Thane got little use of it's BM ML line(throw weapon = useless compared to DoomHammer, BG is usefull if in grp, else not at all, and grapple mostly use of it if grouped(seldom usefull in solo fights) - AND to make them usefull, the Thanes defining abilities aint possible to use(single and ae nukes), the BM styles make the Thane OOE in 2 hits(unlike the hybrids that usually go with the BM and ML line, the Thane ain't got end reduction nor red end-regen of it's own, nor could it get a 20 min end reduction buff).

... This adds up where the Thane couldn't utilize even half of it's absolutelty mostly used ML line - where as good as all other hybrids(that commonly use BM as ML line) could(even Mauler and Savages have their ways of regaining HP, to be able to utilize BM alot more then the Thane).

There's several more issues, that all adds up and become "layered problems" as I like to call it.

Good Thanes get groups and do well as casters, but there's only one or two good ones in the game .
