I wonder if it is gear related. That sounds crazy to me, but the only thing I can think of that I changed on the eld was that I started buying gear for my rvr template, and it was going to be identical to the one my ani wears. I might try removing all the gear from the ani and see if that changes anything.
It doesn't sound crazy to me at all. Programs behave differently depending on the data that gets fed into them, and your toon's gear is part of the data. If a certain kind of bug exists, the different behavior could including freezing sometimes but not other times.
I'm very curious to hear the results of your test!-

I have this problem too on my necro. I have experienced it several times before the patch, but it would always work on the second try. This time it takes several attempts. I try logging on different chars/accounts, but I have no idea what it is that eventually allows me to log on the necro.

My necro is usually logged in nf.
But having same issues with other necro who is always at my house.
Tried hitting escape but that does not work, still hanging. Have to end program through taskmanager.
Today I could login after 4 tries but also have had to try like 30 times before the necro would load.

I'm usually logged in CV or SF Midgard-side. Once or twice in Aegir. I don't think its the zone we log off in. It's either something PC/DAoC side. or something with the characters themself. Has to be something stored in a roaming file (not something deleted with DAoC, since its present when we all reinstall)
Let's explore the "item" theory.
What items are your casters wearing?
Here's a list on my BD's equipment:

The Bracer of Zo is an item I recently added.. The issues began shortly after.
So many people use this item though, surely it can't be the cause?

I have the same problem with my necro and my BD , i can't log in , i'm trying to log from about 1 day , i have installed again the client, same shit..... i don't know how to solve the only thing that i know is that my char still in camelot (without any kind of template only Cathal equipment) from about 26 hours.... this happens only with my PC , i have a friend that could login my char.....
Someone have find a solution about that?

The best temporary fix is to hit escape once the game freezes on the loading screen.
It will close the game to desktop. Simply restart DAoC and log in again as normal.
You will get in on the second try.
I will continue to look for a permanent fix.

I can hit escape for a million times but game won't close.
