Anyway, I'd have preferred that so they wouldn't be rewarded the fruits of my labors.
I was gonna say the same. I'd much rather die than have them steal my loot like that. Of course, I'm talking about dying... "in the game" ...

I would suspect he was from the same realm or he would have killed you then killed the mob. If he's from the same realm you can /appeal him, you're not allowed to attack mobs other players are actively fighting unless asked. If he's from a different realm then I don't see a problem other than he was too chicken to try and kill you. I've done it in ML10 on my Ranger a few times but usually to farmers not people who were actually doing it for credit, usually didn't work but a few times it did.

If he was on a different realm, then I think it's a different story. I'd say its fair game. But if someone on your own realm does that, appeal them. I think its not likely that anything will happen but appeal anyways.

On EU servers I got several players banned for stealing my artifacts. The official statement of GOA (Distributor and Operator of DaoC in EU) was that nobody is allowed to add in an running encounter. Normaly you start an encpounter if you pull a mob that is associated with the encounter.
Of course that counts only if the thief is a realm mate. If it's an realm enemy, than this will be a total different case. As realm enemy of course it is allowed to add in a running encounter.
I don't know if Mythic handels this case the same way like GOA. But if you are shure that the leecher was a realm mate than I would write an appeal.

I heard that kill stealing was against ToS, but I don't know for sure.
CSRs respond pretty quickly to violation appeals so it would have at the very least been worth it too ask.
