Mythic, it’s all right to be brilliant at only a few things. You do not need to pretend to be brilliant at everything. Admit mistakes and find solutions.
Mythic, if you are about to knee jerk to the conclusion that I am wrong, ask yourself “how it is that this poster predicted this circus act that is happening concerning the Pendragon ring?â€
The solution for the challenge that you find yourself in requires that you stop acting as if the rings are each worth a years pay and stop acting as if you are paying for each ring that you hand out.
Instead of the silly rules that you put in place. . . yes silly. I have discussed the challenges with your rules in previous threads. Your existing rules where 50% will get the ring, can penalize players who were supposed to get a “good chance†to get a ring and it can penalize players who did enough to almost guarantee they would get a ring because they had collected many “good chancesâ€.
Instead of the silly rules that you put in place, without announcing any change in the rules, bite the bullet and give everyone a ring (everyone who logged into Pendragon over the period of the contest). Again, you are not paying for each ring. Once the system is created to distribute rings there is no cost to distribute additional rings. Giving a ring to everyone ensures that 1) All the participants still think that they were part of a “contestâ€. 2) Everyone who had a “good chance†to get a ring actually gets a ring. 3) You can end this silliness where you are increasing Mythic’s bad reputation. 4) You can put this circus behind you.
Then, learn from your mistake and instead of running away from these contests by saying, “$%#& I’ll never have one of those contests againâ€. Take what you learned and with the next contest create specific rules. Also, remember when you make the rules for the contest that the rings are just ‘data’ and are not something you need to covet and hold onto. Make the contest rules easy to follow and make it fairly obvious how a player can earn access to a ring.
If the contest rules are written down, published and easy to follow then it makes it easy for players to understand what to expect but just as important, having clear rules that are published creates a clear set of guidelines so Mythic people know how to manage the contest.
For now, put an end to this silliness. Just give a ring to everyone who showed up.
