sorry for the title but it isn't exactly false advertising when as Woodspryte said the developers of the game have basically said that as DAoC players & fans (and at least one former Mythic employee) making their own version of DAoC RvR was a major goal for Guild Wars 2. And now that they are starting to release some of the details I think they are getting it pretty darn close.

Kedali

you out there soon
Think all the answers above pretty much sum up why the 2 week 3 way server battle rotation is the better way to go (and maybe they will find they need to change up the interval somewhat to make it longer or shorter) but since it will be a ladder situation with all servers competing to be top dog I think you will find your server more frequently matched up against other servers of similar ranking, enough to develop some good healthy rivalries at least.
Not to mention that names will be universally unique with the ability to switch servers easily (but unable to participate in the current WvW match up or reap the bonuses from it to prevent world hopping for personal gain) you'll be able to join your enemies or find your arch nemesis on a new server. Exact details on mechanics yet to be released but I trust ANET to get it right. I just want to be able to find a home world where there are a lot of former DAoC players because people who have not experienced RvR really seem pretty clueless on the whole idea of Realm Pride. Guild Wars 2 forums often make me really miss you guys and long for the good ole days.

Where else do a lot of former DAoC players hang out these days anyways?

This combined with the fact there is no healing classes make me wonder how they will make the 'rvr' work.
It's not
no healing class but all classes can heal themselves so you take responsibility for your own mistakes and learn how to mitigate them. I don't think that will be a problem in WvWvW since they stress the importance of using dodge and terrain to your advantage to avoid damage. In fact it might end up the other extreme where most fights take awhile to finish.

I guess they could make it so things like the siege weaponry a ram (if there is one) blocks all line of sight this way someone operating it would be able to stay alive. Either that or the doors would have to drop super fast.
From the interview it sounds like pretty much all the siege weaponry we are familar with from DAoC will be present with keeps, towers and destroyable walls but instead of battle rams per say you use resources to build siege golems that a player can get inside of which should offer some pretty decent protection and fun.

You transfer the player into it, and now you’re just this giant, Asura, Battle-MechWarrior sort of thing. You can just walk up and start punching in the gates, punching in people’s faces if you feel the need to; it’s another great, epic siege weapon." --Guild Wars 2 PvP Systems Designer Matt Witter
