Only now they are calling it Guild Wars 2

Take a listen to this PvP/WvWvW interview (audio down at the bottom if 5 pages of text isn't your thing) and tell me you don't see shades of Dark Ages of Camelot in everything they mention only like you imagined it could have been in your wildest dreams.

More importantly, explain how you would define the magic formula that makes RvR in DAoC so fun & successful in a way that someone who has never played the game can understand because it seems to be really difficult concept to grasp. Why is Realm vs Realm combat such a unique and complex idea to illustrate and what are the required elements that hit that sweet spot to make it the nearly ideal blend of all possible play styles? This has always been an illusive answer for me to try and pin down and I am no closer after trying for the last 8 years.

Hope to see a lot of familiar names out there in WvW come May/June.

The reason it reminds you of DAOC is... well... they already said they are taking alot of things from DAOC's open world PvP.

I actually hate the fact that they rotate servers (worlds). Part of the fun in daoc RvR is the rivalry you get not only between the realms, but between different players and groups.
I still remember the names of lots of guilds and players that I fought 8+ years ago. I even remember fights I had with them.

Having new opponents every few weeks will not help build the community at all, in fact it will be counterproductive in that regard and IMO at least, a strong community is among what most new MMOs miss the most.

Imagine yourself what daoc would have been like if it was like that back in the days.

This is also why games like WoW have no community outside of guilds. Everyone are anonymous, you won't ever see most people you group with through the automated systems again and there are no server communities because everyone uses said systems for convenience. You might aswell play with bots in most cases.

I actually made a very similar post on another board about 10 minutes after you made this one. I totally agree that the server rotation is a cause for concern. I can't see any way to build rivalries when the rotations are just two weeks apart. However, at the same time, it won't be as bad as with arenas where it's one fight and then you literally never see the person again. It's still two weeks to fight it out.

Yeah, it's good if you are on a semi balanced server. It sucked if you were playing Midgard or Hibernia early on the Lancelot server with Albion have 50% of the total population (unless you were a masochist).

I love the server rotation idea. I think it'll keep things fresh and competitive.

Since rotations are based on Rank (how well your side does), eventually you will be sided with a few worlds, so you won't have completely "new" servers to face after a few rotations, also it mkaes your side work together.
