It only took me 7 years to derail a thread, nice. Now I just can't let my ingame name be known.

If you don't want to use Vent and want more of the casual gaming experience try the Molv BG.

I don't blame the poster, sometimes I don't want to get in a vent group and have to listen to the craziness.

I happen to dislike vent as well but only for the reason of people being on same server but on differant realms...

Whether you like Vent or not, how are you going to enforce a ban on a third-party program? I could be using Vent right now. How would you know? How would you stop me?

How do you get a girl to sound like a dolphin?!
Bend her over, try to stick it in her bum and listen to her go “eh eh, eh eh.”

prolly the same way when they ban the macro groups for using third party programs...im not saying i totally am against vent i like it sometimes but its way to easy for 3 people to be on same vent server but on differant realms telling them where people are to kill and such thats just lame and bad game play imo

but no matter what they wont stop the use of it and im not saying everyone on vent shares realm info with others on opposite realm just the few

Regarding Vent and cross-realming. If it isn't Vent, then it's IRC, or IM, or something else.

Regarding the issue of elite players vs casual players. Obviously you can't exclude chat clients, that isn't difficult to enforce, it's IMPOSSIBLE to enforce. Don't even try. Pretending removing voice chat was possible, probably the bigger problem would be the elite players are in preformed perfectly tailored groups highly ranked and well geared. Casual players are probably running in a random pickup group with too many of something and too few of something else, not highly ranked, not used to working with each other.

Vent helps the elite groups, but taking it away would probably do almost nothing to help the casual player.

In an open world PvP game, the only practical solution for the casual player is to run with larger numbers. So the only viable solution is already available (sounds like people still zerg in this game).

Without vent, there wouldn't be amazing videos like this one.

DakRT: And 4 Scouts makes a [stealth] zerg huh?
Zyzyg: What anytime snare are you talking about?...Your anytime style should be Polar Rift. Clearly you don't play a Shadowblade.
Steot: Its fact, I just dont have proof.

call me anti-social or something, but sometimes i tell people that i don't have a mic when I really do (I wonder if anyone is reading this right now, and remembers a 'knob' char who said they didn't have a mic). Sometimes I don't feel like talking, almost makes it feel as if you're expected to carry on the conversation.

but to say something more related to this thread. I think it would add a whole new dimension to group strategy if vent could not be used in combat. IMO this would be really cool. but number one, its impossible to enforce, and number two, it wouldn't actually provide an overall benefit to the game. Sometimes i used to play with some germans, and you have to really pay attention to whats happening around you. clearly it puts you at a disadvantage but its not impossible to do.
