I think if you want to get mids to have more new players it will require a SERIOUS player run effort to get all the knowledgeable players on mid to be willing to spend time just answer questions in /advice and grouping random newbs. The problem is mid really has this problem with running perfect groups. They are always underpop and if they DON'T run perfect groups they feel like they die too much. So I don't think it's really fixable without spending 6 months with the midguard realm dying all the time.

Tell that to Annamariede's 110+ weekday zerg (about equal to Tevatron's zerg size) with Catsfriend's 60+ weeknight zerg (about equal to Rescu's zerg size).

Yes but albs run 2-3 zergs, not just one.

EDIT: Sorry, I guess you were referring to perfect groups? I don't know about that, but midguard definitely has a rep of not grouping newbs.

Two, the second is a private bg that mostly camps towers anyway (Billings).

No, I was referencing zergs. Annamariede and Catsfriend both run public/open BGs.

I was more or less talking about when albs run 4FG at 3 am in the fking morning, when there isn't shit for mids on to fight back.

Yet you do not mention that the Albs have nothing to fight back against the 130+ person Annamariede zerg during European primetime. Or did you want one realm to have a competitive zerg on at all hours of the day?

I must admit that when I started playing back in 03 it took me like a month to figure out you could play other realms. I thought enemy players in the bgs were just oddly coded mobs. When my guild leader was talking about mids and hibs, I had no idea what she meant lol.

The mids are oddly coded mobs.

US primetime (which isn't even server primetime anymore) is the only time of day where albs have a population advantage, and it isn't anywhere near as big as people make it out to be. It only appears otherwise because at that time of day, albs are running public bgs that invite everyone whereas mids and hibs run 2-3 group private bgs that don't invite anyone they don't know.

Incorrect. The Mid US primetime zerg is public (Catsfriend/TSK) and they let everyone in. Albs run two zergs, one of which is public (Rescu/Pienna/Zaradia), and the other is private (Billings/Sullinxl). It is a pretty significant numerical advantage, but Billings mostly just goes from objective to objective camping towers/keeps, so the advantage isn't that big unless both zergs happen to be in the same place at once. It also doesn't help that Rescu's zerg has learned to spread and does not get bombed nearly as much or effectively as a month ago, while TSK has yet to learn.

Even though it probably hurts me individually I think if more people would follow Billings model I think things would settle down to be better balanced realm population wise overall. He consistently seems to run between 2-4fg and appears quite objective oriented and his objective can't be a relic raid since albs usually have most of them already.

I can't speak for mid lately but Hib randomly gets +2fg in the same area and then is invariably bombarded with region spam (ie lovein the 13 year old wunderkid) with ideas of having a public bg (that at least he appears to never actually use) for an impending relic raid that proceeds to last about 37 minutes before dying and moving either to labyrinth or ML10 or some random spot where those numbers are sufficient to trounce anything.

People vastly underestimate the challenge of playing with new people and the deleterious impact it has on their groups. Even in pro sports team chemistry between players good bad or all-stars is a difficult thing to achieve in short order. In daoc that challenge is magnified.

If more people were willing to organize into doing guild rvr or /as pugs and sort of become familiar and funnel people in (rate controlled) while shielding themselves from ass 's by staying a little bit private I think they'd be happier RvRing overall. Unfortunately Mythic does nothing to promote this and in fact has made so many changes that hinder that kind of thing that it's virtually non-existent anymore.
