friend of mine said it wasn't necessary. (Haven't tested myself, but he said he's been watching netflix w/ his ps3 the last few days).

Apparently a lot of it has to do with what client version of Netflix you have on your PS3.. I literally cannot watch Netflix without being able to sign in to PSN.. it keeps prompting me to sign in..sign in fails and Netflix pops up with a message saying I need to be logged into PSN. So yeah, some people are lucky enough to have this not affect them and others are not.
