Sony's report to Congress, they say they found a file named Anonymous with the contents stating "We are Legion".
I dunno about you guys but I'm about sick of anonymous and their crap. I hope they get caught and fried for this.
I dunno about you guys but I'm more willing to accept Anonymous at their word that they had nothing to do with this than a giant corporation facing class action lawsuits and a P.R. disaster desperate to shift the focus on to anyone instead of their own incompetence. Then again, a one-word filename with 3 words of content? Skip the trial, that's proof enough for me.
What has Anonymous done to deserve your trust? They've attacked the PSN before. As far as I'm concerned Sony prolly could've done more to prevent the attack, but no one is safe from such things on the internet. I'm more inclined to blame the hackers for what they did than the company.

I get that Rhylith, but we are WAY too sue happy as a nation. If you come out of this with nothing happening to you at all, then I don't see why you have any right to be a part of a lawsuit against them. Especially if you're asking for monetary compensation.
I would never have spent 400 bucks on a ps3 had I known that the free online play, one of their main selling points, would put my personal data at risk.
Oh and the problem spread to SOE too so if you ever played one of their mmos your data is out there too. Everquest/eq2, swg, vanguard, free realms, dc universe, etc.

Loudly and happily publicized many previous attacks, instead of denying them? Not performed any "we did it for the money" attacks?

I don't think this was part of their plan. No matter how secure your network is, it's always at risk and we all know that. Again, the lawsuit should be against the hacker. We don't come down hard enough on people who do these types of things.

It was pretty easy to cancel my card. In fact, I didn't even have to wait for the new one to be mailed; they print the new one right in the bank in just a couple of minutes. As far as the other info, well, doesn't seem like anything they couldn't get from a piece of mail or somewhere else less secure on the intrawebs, so I'm really not fussed. Plus now they've alerted the major card companies who have started observations. It seems like the people making a giant fuss about it are under their parents roof, can't play their CoD, and don't really understand that the real life implications are not that big. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Maybe someone here can tell me how I can get my ID stolen in this situation and not be able to claim fraud or defend myself somehow. /shrug

Sony's CEO came forward saying they'll provide everyone with a year of ID theft protection and a month of that premium PSN service so I'm satisfied now. Really that's what the class action should be about is making Sony pay for ID theft protection if they weren't willing to do it themselves.
I just don't wanna see them be able to push this entirely on the hackers. Keeping the personal data unencrypted is pretty stupid of them, and the network improvements should have come when Anonymous did their first DDOS attack.

No details yet on how to obtain the service but it's an open letter that's all over the internet, shouldn't be hard to find.
