*brushes away a few tears as she reads through the thread*

While reading through this, it occurred to me that I remember Bruic most especially for those nights in Darkness Falls. He didn't go on Prince Raids. He stayed to help other lower levels make their next season. He cared a great deal about Albion, and it was felt and shown in all the little things he did, even his criticisms.

I didn't know him well, personally, but I have always thought of him as someone whose very love of Albion was an asset to us all. His support kept many of our spirits alive and smiles on our faces when things seemed grim. And that...takes a very special person.

My heart-felt love to his friends and family. I cannot imagine this is an easy thing, for any of you.

We of the Order of the Dragon wish to extend our condolences along with the rest of those that are expressed here, as well.

Last, but not least, I wanted to leave something special for Bruic, and those who knew him and loved him.

Farewell to Arms

Farewell to Arms and Battle Cries

To wounds of pain and heartfelt sighs;

Farewell to War's unending fights,

To endless sieges, sleepless nights;

Farewell, too, to the rosey morn

Who carried each breath with a misted form,

And farewell to night's brief shadow dance

Upon which whispered the winds of Chance;

Farewell to sights of death and dead,

That clarion note I came to dread;

Farewell to laughter and to peace--

So rarely had on such short lease;

Farewell, then too, my dearest friend;

For though you pass, life does not end:

Whatever may come in time departs,

But the memory lives on within our hearts.

And so Farewell.

Farewell.

When I heard the news, I wasn't sure what to think. I am glad that we have the boards here to come together when these things happen. My condolences to him and his family.

I was trying to remember why his name was familiar earlier when our guild was talking about it tonight, and when I read that he was a paladin, I remembered. A few months ago, when Qaz was 41 and I was 40, we were at Hadrian's playing around, and we came upon Bruic, 50 paladin. We attacked him, thinking we could get him, but of course we were completely beaten. We kept attacking but he kept healing somehow. Qaz got nailed, and I ran off and to be sent home by the Benowyc guards.

He was a skilled player, and by all accounts a good person as well. That kind of maturity is sometimes hard to come by in these games. Special condolences to those in his guild, and of course real life friends and family.

I remember many months back, stumbling upon Bruic in the frontier. He'd just killed an elf. He commented about his name finally making more sense, and how his son had given him the 'Elfslayer' last name.

I remember as so many do, the countless hours hours he and others spent in Darkness Falls helping (shoving, pushing, pulling, dragging, lifting by bootstraps, etc.) so myself and so many others get to 50th season.

I remember the evening (OK - 2 AM for me, similar or slightly later for him) battle call, "Club Bled!" which dragged me from the forge and ended with 8 or so of us getting together to 'borrow' Bledmeer for another of hottubs and jovial chaos.

His unselfish acts, good-natured heart and shining example of what it means to be a Paladin leave me empty now, but feeling lucky to have known, traveled, fought, and laughed with him.

Bruic - Thank you for all you've shared. I hope to live up to the standards which you set for yourself.

Mike's family and friends - you're in my thoughts and prayers. I'm blessed to have the happy memories I have, and knowing what I've seen, I'm sure you've been blessed the same.

We all become family some how in DAoC, even when we do make Game and RL seem like two very different things. Can we really say we do feel any different for the people we meet here in game than for the people we meet in "RL"? Heck! There's more people I like in the game than in RL. We do have more in common and some how some times a special conection is made and we find it more easy to talk about feelings in type than in person. We can't help but to care about each other. Loosing a friend from the game is just as hard and painful as it can be in "RL"

I met Bruic and grouped with him a few times, he was a wonderfull man and will be missed. My condolences to his family, specially to his son, and to all his friends and guildmates.

I'm horrible at this type of situation, so forgive me if I seem callous for not saying much.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry to Bruic's friends and family. Nothing's quite as bad as losing a loved one.
