Someone's 'right' to express themselves does not include forcing other people to go along with it. Saying it was wrong for Turbine to censor players would be infringing on Turbine's 'right' to express themselves. The beauty of it is, there are dozens of MMORPGs out there...if you don't like the way Turbine does it, you have plenty of options.

Getting back on topic, since this forum is about UTILITIES and not "the morals behind them", the question was asked if there was or will be a "language filter" plugin.
Everyone giving their opinion on if it is a good thing or not, is the same sort of thing as "Is Macroing Good or Bad", and is SUPPOSEDLY beyond the scope of this forum.
To my knowledge there isn't one and I haven't heard of anyone working on one. I would like to see one developed.

super idea. since the new cod with tod i have been lucky and have not seen any foul words. under supervision there is no reason a child old enought to understand english should not be able to play,it is tv that should be avoided.

First, my kid has heard all the words
Second, I have said some of them in front of them when mad (ie hit thumb with hammer, fall on something etc.)
Third, son goes to a city school and has gotten in trouble for saying bad words so i must "try" to limit them or i will "fail" him as a parent.
It is not like he/i live in a bubble, but he likes AC and it would be cool if he did not have to see that stuff. I will let him play anyway and have, but as a perent i should try to limit negitive things.
"Not playing AC is one of the first things I would do as a parent if I felt that it was harmful to my children. I don't care how much they like it and want to play. If I feel that it is a negative influence on my child, and I don't want my child exposed to that, then I would simply remove the problem (which is the software). "
The problem is cussing not AC imho
"Regardless of how you personally feel about vulgarity, how right is it to inhibit someone's right to express that?"
As a community, we have the right AND the responsibility to police said community for the benifit of all. ((community = a group of people sharing a common interest and relating together socially )) A filter would be the best way to do it since it does not hurt anyone, or hurt there game. AC could have added it and made you able to click/unclick it. Also you have no "right" to cuss in AC, it is against the COC, just as you have no right to cuss in public (you could get a ticket). Save it for your own home and in front of your own kids/parents.
"People can't expect "the machine" (government, corporation, etc) to be the ruler on censorship because as soon as you allow them to start censoring one thing, who knows what they'll censor next."
IF everyone got invulved in the goverment, as they should, it would only what we wanted it to. "the machine" = "the people" in the U.S. A plug-in again would be the best, since no one would be hurt in anyway.
"While a plugin can fill this need for many people, I'd just assume remove the problem altogether from my child's life."
That realy is defeatest, if your child gets picked on at school do you stop sending them? No you fix the problem. Ac has good and bad, I like how my son can type better then anyone in his class, the only problem i see is cuss word used alot by a "very" small group of people. I am trying to fix the problem in the best way for everyone and not infringe on anyone.
Thanks Virindi-Inquisitor, my wife will be happy when plug-in is ready.

I have never read a more ignorant statement. Parents dont want there kids to read profanity. Good parents dont want to give their children the impression that it is ok to swear or cuss. I never allow cussing around my little ones. My 7year old is exceptionally intelligent and loves to play WoW and AC. A good foul language blocker would be a major help. And some mature adults prefer not to have to read F### this or that ever other line. The only people that have to cuss or swear do so because they lack a proper grasp of the english vocabulary.
that said, u REALLY need to have a talk with dire lmao

my son is almost 12, he plays on a computer right beside me, his characters all have global turned off, he also plays tribes 2 with me (and does almost as good as me!!!) (if you dont know what tribes 2 is, it is a fast paced first person shooter on par with or even faster than counter strike)
I know full well that he has heard and can repeat many many bad words, but like others, I still dont want him to see/be exposed to them all the time, especially in a game where said words break the rules of the game!!
now, that is my view, and part of my solution (which works well enough for the most part)
the rest I do on my own, I report ANYONE using foul language in open chat and global chat, I do so because there really IS no true reason to have to use such language, especially when it is against the rules in the first place. there are so many other ways to express yourself without being a foul mouthed little brat
