You keep saying you are running as admin.

Have you tried right clicking and choosing "run as admin" like I said?

Just because you have admin rights doesn't mean every program is being run as admin.

"is it possible the registry is pointing to an OLDER version of decal in a protected directy that can not be updated?"

This could be the case for my issue. How would I get it to point to the correct version?

you'd have to uninstall and then make sure all instances of decal in the registry is removed and all any old install directories files scattered around the harddrive - would be my guess.

Please find the following files in c:\Games\Decal

clientpatches.xml

killbit.xml

memlocs.xml

decalplugins.xml

messages.xml

updatelist.xml

These 6 files are what are re-written to the drive when you do a Decal update.

Check the timestamps on the files. Do an Update. See if the timestamps change

to the current date/time. We are trying to verify that Decal is gaining write

permissions for that directory. If it doesn't have the rights, the files won't

actually be changed, Decal won't complain about it, and when you re-load Decal,

nothing will be any different.

Verify those 6 files are actually being written to the drive/directory so we

can remove that as a possible problem. In my experience with Decal not updating

and clearing the red x's, this is the number 1 reason, no write permissions.

The files are indeed updating. Still get the no surrogate and red Xs.
