I m very very disapointed by Turbine.

A 1500 $ disapointment.

My Nvidia GTX 280 is permanently damaged by AC client.

My Dell laptop computer is permanently damaged by AC client.

Ac client make new graphics cards burns out.

I played 2 years in lotro and other new generation games without any problem.

I start replaying AC 3 months ago. Immiediatly after a few hours of playing, I experienced some crash from my main computer.

Very brutal crashs with the screen covered with red squares. (I can provide picture of that)

So, rebooted... Sometime I can play just fine for hours... sometime the system is hanging on at boot with the same awfull red squares screen.

But now my computer can t even boot. I ve got that hardware failure all the time.

So at first I tought it was the "natural" end of my Nvidia Gtx 280 card, i used it for only 2 years. so it was strange, those cards have a extended lifetime...

I installed Ac client on my other computer; a brand new DELL laptop.

10 minutes after playing the game; the same graphic bug happened.

Now the screen of the laptop remains black. and it s dead forever.

so you guys can think it s just a coincidence. But I m not.

I m persuaded that AC killed both graphics card.

The game is not optimized for the new graphic cards power sheme.

There is a simple way to know if your graphic card will suffer from Ac client :

At the characters selection screen; you will hear a strange noisy sound coming from your graphic card. This sounds mean Asheron s call Client deliver too much power to the graphic card.

At that point; there is no damage done to your hardware; but you will have a probability that your hardware can t handle the power Ac needs.

Because Ac requires too much power to maintain the framerate, this power charge was ok for the old graphic cards. The new graphic cards can t handle that amont of power; it can at first but it will damage the system in time. And if the graphic bug i experienced occur ounce. it s over..

In time you ll not able to even boot your computer again.

It s a shame, I love Ac game. But I feel so frustrated now, I don t want to install to another system, I know it s risky. t

So beware, people who buy new generation graphic cards. Ac have a possibility to kill your hardware for good. with permanent side effects.

Invest in decent cooling equipment. Your proposed scenario should be no different from running Crysis on high, causing everything to thrash and max out. Your stuff probably just overheated. Starcraft 2 was causing a similar problem.

There is also a plugin to limit frame rates.

I've run AC on a wide variety of computers from desktops to laptops, never had a single issue with the graphics card.

Try doing some computer maintenance and blow out the dust once in a while and make sure there is adequate cooling before blaming a software program that thousands of people run without their graphics cards blowing up.

My Lenovo T60p graphic card heats up seriously and the dual CPUs show about 50% load at all times when AC is running, even at low graphics setting. High settings make the card overheat. I've had a couple of thermal shutdowns only when the client or the AC welcome screen - is running. More demanding games do not cause such issues.

I've not played in a while, but I also had this problem though not to the point of damaging my hardware. I had an nvidia 7800gtx and an ATI 4850 in completely separate systems have the same issue so I don't think it is brand (nvidia/amd) specific. When loading the AC client, I would hear a loud high pitched squealing coming from inside my case. It was either the power supply or videocards making the noise, I never actually pinpointed the exact component doing it. No other software has ever done this to my hardware before, and I can't imagine this is a good thing.

Interesting. I had several GC's blow up when playing AC back when I played full time (2000?).

Never really thought about it much. Its hard to believe that AC could blow up a modern GC though and im not aware of any software mechanism that could actually ruin hardware.
