Sounds like they want to do it the Blizzard way with cataclysm. WoW can loose customers but not AC.
When I read about the Feb update, the CU/NGE for SWG came to mind instantly.
Severlins biggest reasoning behind all of the changes seems to be to make the lesser melee skills on par with, or at least competitive with the main skills, i.e. dagger feasible as a main weapon compared to sword, staff comparable to mace. Heavy weapons training will allow you to use all heavy weapons, i.e. sword, mace, spear. Light weapons will contain UA, staff, dagger. You cannot train a specific weapon now but the skill which allows you access to several weapons. You can specialize a specific weapon by the use of an augment. You can only augment one weapon which will be akin to specializing before the changes. It's a mess and I cannot believe anyone is really behind this in the community, but they are.
I read the notes and the long thread at the official forums and hope they scrap the whole idea.
I agree with the poster above me, I think their time would be better spent designing new content/land masses rather than trying to redesign the core elements of the game 12 years in...
