Good solution to recover Asheron's Call's Health/Community!
Ok first of all, remove decal at all cost. Let me finish before you say something fierce!
1. Remove/Block Decal
2. Turbine could make thier own program to auto make arrows, show directions, buffbots, and more. However, cant have UCM in order to gain exp in any form... So you have to kill things to level up manually.
3. Or could make AC3 with better graphic and could make those kind of program to make stuff for you but NOT KILLING/GAIN EXP FOR YOU!
I think this is the best solution to cure the Asheron's Call's health and community!!! I wanted to post this in AC suggestion forum... I hope someone that still plays the game and can copy and paste this in ac suggestion box! Thanks!!

Not even close.
I recently tried AC for a month again and there is one simple barrier between AC and success. Turbine.
Since we can't fix that, what can be done to make AC a viable game to play for those who have not done it.
1) Highlight NPCs with quests. Yeah I know, but it will dumb down the game. Well guess what, not being helpful to your playerbase is the real dumbing down.
2) Contracts, ie Quests. Nice idea, rotten implementation. Coordinates? Your kidding right? Instead of being smart and having contracts provide the player with a general locale they gave coordinates. Well, unless you write down the coordinates of each city you have no idea where X,Y is. So, name the nearest city/housing complex. Besides being helpful it makes the NPCs feel more part of the world.
3) All vendors buy all things. None of this having to find someone to buy your shit. I can't tell you how aggravating it is to a returning player, I can only imagine what its like to new players.
4) No item on drop on death below level 100. An old mechanic better suited for PvP than PvE. Worse its pointless because of DIs. Hell the Developers made an out for it, why not just remove it.
5) Better in game map. Would be even nicer if you could display portal routes on it. Please don't tell me that you lose something by adding these things, your in a magical world, and you run faster than most people in mounts could ever hope to in other games.
6) Did I mention highlighting NPCs who have appropriate things for people to do at specific levels? I think I did. As to what to put above their heads? The Aerlinthe symbol

A big NO. Player will just look for icon above thier head.(Realistic? LOL) And not bothering to read it and click to accept. The old style has no icon makes you talk to everyone... Its by your action if u wanna know whats up, not them luring you by thier worthless ICON.

You kidding? This isn't the problem!

Just No, LOL

Actually, this is 1 of the best thing about the game, NO Clumsy and stupid mount. This is what make the game unique as well!

Big NO once again... Its like holding hand and guide through.... thats what kill MMORPG nowadays... Its all about freedom!

The coordinate system really isn't hard to figure out. AC requires a little effort/learning/exploring which is exactly why so many people love the game after 11 years. It ISN'T holding your hand, highlighting NPCs, telling you exactly where to go and what to do at every level in the game. That is exactly what people WANT in AC.
When people play a game as awful, as easy, and as uninteresting as WoW and then try to turn other games into that same terrible idea it is always sad.

And for the record, I would be all for removing decal entirely with no further additions to the game. Y'all suck if you can't play AC vanilla anymore. I play on Darktide without Decal.

You cannot 'fix' Asheron's Call, or bring new life to it's community. The time for this game has passed. It's as simple as that. There will always be a tiny niche of people, including myself, that will return to AC1 over and over again, if only to sample the new and remember the old.
However, it benefits the entire MMO community to keep the game alive because AC is still one of the truly innovative games on the market. It's almost at 12 years of monthly content updates, and it's simply the most massive, deep fantasy MMO yet created. There is simply no way for one character to ever experience everything this game has to offer, and no other fantasy world has had a 12 year running history playing out every month.
____________
I wonder if there is some unspoken game of chicken going on between the original 3 big MMO's, as to which will be the first to fall.

Seriously after reading everyone's post word for word, it made me cry inside that I'm personally not alone in this situation. Does anyone remember when you had to figure out which powder/potion/scarab/color candle, etc to learn 1 level x spell was? that was hard as F, but I thought it was what brought me into the game, magic was amazing back then. Then they tied the account to your MSN nickname and boom all the combinations for each spell at each level was revealed.
About a month ago I oveheard a song playing on the english radio station where I am currently (Shanghai), at first it didn't hit me but once the lyrics popped in, a surge of memories and images came into my head while driving, It was the same song I use to run from Eastham to Arwic on the beach killing azure gromnies up and down with people I never met before,
AC has been watered down a bit, some for the good, some for the worse. AC is on its last legs for sure. AC2, well lets not get into that. IF, IF, IF, a game developer did decide to own the rights or create an mmo that is similar to AC1 with a bit of AC2 or current gfx engine, it would make all the difference to get the AC1 community from 1999 to sub in. But honestly nowadays alot of mmo's either go f2p after a few months, or are just flavors of the month and die out. Also note, better gfx doesn't essentially mean a better MMO, personally I would rather have lower gfx with better connection/less lag if it was due to the world and high demand for gfx. Ultima Online had a very good run at that. Its obivous with the low population of 1-300 on most servers minus DT topping 400 daily the servers are not what they use to be.
To justify everything, the world economy specifically the US economy at its state now, Turbine management, Turbine staff, and their plan for the future of their titles they hold, AC1 and LOTRO, is all up in the air, AC1 could end next week.
Personally I'd like to write more about my opinions but as I do I tend to drag off point. So to end my post, as a player who started in 99-left in 03, back in 03-left in 05, and back again 1 month in, I do believe if there is a stable MMO that has or will be released similar to the mechanics of pre ToD or DM AC1, with some jazzy gfx, the player base will move there. I must add that Eve-Online is still by far one of my favorite MMO's besides AC1 that is on my top 5.
I bid you all adieu and wish everyone the best, I will most likely be here (@DT/MT) till the end of AC1 or Turbine, whichever comes first. Please don't forget MS to thank for AC1 before it was sold to Turdbine.
