Seriously after reading everyone's post word for word, it made me cry inside that I'm personally not alone in this situation. Does anyone remember when you had to figure out which powder/potion/scarab/color candle, etc to learn 1 level x spell was? that was hard as F, but I thought it was what brought me into the game, magic was amazing back then. Then they tied the account to your MSN nickname and boom all the combinations for each spell at each level was revealed.

About a month ago I oveheard a song playing on the english radio station where I am currently (Shanghai), at first it didn't hit me but once the lyrics popped in, a surge of memories and images came into my head while driving, It was the same song I use to run from Eastham to Arwic on the beach killing azure gromnies up and down with people I never met before,

AC has been watered down a bit, some for the good, some for the worse. AC is on its last legs for sure. AC2, well lets not get into that. IF, IF, IF, a game developer did decide to own the rights or create an mmo that is similar to AC1 with a bit of AC2 or current gfx engine, it would make all the difference to get the AC1 community from 1999 to sub in. But honestly nowadays alot of mmo's either go f2p after a few months, or are just flavors of the month and die out. Also note, better gfx doesn't essentially mean a better MMO, personally I would rather have lower gfx with better connection/less lag if it was due to the world and high demand for gfx. Ultima Online had a very good run at that. Its obivous with the low population of 1-300 on most servers minus DT topping 400 daily the servers are not what they use to be.

To justify everything, the world economy specifically the US economy at its state now, Turbine management, Turbine staff, and their plan for the future of their titles they hold, AC1 and LOTRO, is all up in the air, AC1 could end next week.

Personally I'd like to write more about my opinions but as I do I tend to drag off point. So to end my post, as a player who started in 99-left in 03, back in 03-left in 05, and back again 1 month in, I do believe if there is a stable MMO that has or will be released similar to the mechanics of pre ToD or DM AC1, with some jazzy gfx, the player base will move there. I must add that Eve-Online is still by far one of my favorite MMO's besides AC1 that is on my top 5.

I bid you all adieu and wish everyone the best, I will most likely be here (@DT/MT) till the end of AC1 or Turbine, whichever comes first. Please don't forget MS to thank for AC1 before it was sold to Turdbine.

Every single time someone returns to the game they talk about how the game is on its last legs. They did it 8 years ago, 5 years ago, 3 years ago, and they still do it today. By now it should be clear it isn't the case. The game has had the same steady population for several years now. Clearly that population is enough to keep going so it will keep going.

The only thing that ever changed from character to character for the spell system was the color taper you had to use, the rest of the formula was universal. Which color taper you had to use was based off of your character name, always was. Once players figured that out they made a program which told everyone what color tapers they had to use. That type of system was obviously hugely flawed so they took it out once the secret had been figure out. People tend to have fond memories of the good old days without actually remembering the truth of it back then.

The game is in a better state now than it has been since ToD. A lot of quality stuff is being done and accessibility is being addressed. Sure you can think back and say "Back in the day it was fun to grind 24/7 and not gain any levels" but in modern times people wouldn't stick around in a game that did that. They've made necessary changes and they continue with monthly updates to this day. The game is doing fine and will continue to do fine and continue to be around. One thing that will never change is someone coming back to the game after a long long break and making a post about how the game is on its last legs, just like all the people before that person have said for a decade now.

Lol some funny posts here. Bottom line is that what will get people back here? Gameplay. Graphics. Word of mouth.

Removal of Decal seems like a bad idea. Makes crafting and some other chores annoying and give carpal tunnel

I think you'd get a lot more players back if the game wasn't $13ish a month. I'd resub and I know of quite a few more that would also. Hell I'd probably get 2 accounts and get the wife to play....as is, no way.

If the game went back to $9.99/month I'd resub, and have permission from the accountant to resub at least 5 of my previously active 9 accounts.

The $13+/month is the reason I stopped playing in the first place.

I like the Steam demo idea.

I also agree with the sub reduction. This is a great game but a new gamer isn't going to pay $2 less than what a new AAA MMO sub is going for. Drop it back to $9.99.

Turbine needs to once and for all resolve the network issues some players have with the antiquated network code used for AC. I cannot, no matter what, get past the blue vials filling up. The game hangs then disconnects from server. I have actually had the supervisor for my ISP over to my house and do everything at his end in an attempt to get me connected to AC without success. We're talking weeks we worked on this and it boiled down to AC using such an old network protocol that communication through my ISP was not possible(due to newer tech and protocols).

Lastly, AC3. Same game, same mechanics, newer graphics. Add some of the functionality that decal brought to the game to rid it of the things some players consider mundane(i.e. making arrows-which I personally liked to do manually). Do not mess with the basic game beyond that or you'll just screw it up ala AC2.

I think my wife and I would both go nuts for an updated AC.

I am tired of playing the same MMO over and over and over.

Same class archetypes, same skills (diff animations...whoopee) and the same tired PvP based on either who hits first or who has the most stuns.

I really miss AC, but I just can't justify the cost at this point.

I think quite a few people would to be honest although realistically by today's standards, the game would be niche. Unfortunately, studios are not trying to design for the niche crowd, but as you eloquently put it in another thread the lowest profitable common denominator. Studios want the homerun every time and this is the biggest reason why we sadly will probably never see an AC3.

I miss AC as well and would love to see it come out again to re-establish itself as one of the predominate titles from the big 3 days. Gamers are dying for something new IMO. It shows in how many people hop from game to game after the initial 30 days because they realize it's just more of the same in a different wrapper.

Another tell tale sign for me is how many indie developers are trying to get away from the themepark design and trend more towards sandbox design with games like Darkfall, Fallen Earth, and Mortal Online. Those games, despite not being AAA titles and very rough around the edges(Mortal Online) have loyal followings.

The opportunity is there and the genre is ripe for a AAA studio to make a sandbox game. Whether a AAA studio will step away from the norm and take the risk remains to be seen.
