I wouldn't recommend the i7 over the i5 processor, unless you're going to be running a lot of applications that support multi-threading.

If you don't know what that means, I reckon that means no.

Read up on it at least, then decide ^^

ok I'll forget SLI'ing then.

As for the processor, don't any games make use of the multi threading that the i7 offers?

That motherboard you're looking at is about 50 bucks cheaper @ newegg, just FYI.. Between Newegg and Tigerdirect, those are probably the only 2 sites you should shop for computer components.. I've rarely seen Amazon beat them..

That motherboard is actually $18 cheaper on newegg and $14 more expensive on tigerdirect. Not counting shipping.

I'm on my phone so can't see links too well. You going to get an after market CPU cooler? I really wouldn't use the stock ones, they suck. If you're going to game, I would really consider buying one.

Not really, I haven't given it much thought. I do plan to eventually replace my old NZXT Zero case with a Silverstone Aluminum case, it has an unusual structure that lets heat rise and escape through the top. http://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Aluminum-Uni-Body-Computer-CS-FT02B-W/dp/B0030MHEKY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325441331&sr=8-1

but since I've posted this thread I've changed my mind on a lot of these components. I'm going for an ASRock z68 Extreme4 mobo instead, a i5-2500k instead of the i7, a Samsung 830 64gb SSD and a Caviar Black 1tb HDD. And I've decided not to SLI.

good choice on the SLI, it's a gimmick; one card is plenty. here's some food for thought though, if you plan to go middle price range it be cheaper to buy it already made then to put it together yourself... manufactures get good deals on buying components en mass and pass the savings onto you, just be picky about performance specs, and make sure the graphics card isn't the built into the mobo. this way you can also keep your old rig for a bot computer, and save time and a little green in the process. SSD disk for the OS really seems a waste to me, i would understand if it was for the games though.

if you're really insistent about gutting your old machine and putting the old hard drive in... i would recommend getting a cheap external enclosure for it instead of placing it in your tower.

Why would it be better to make my old HDD exteral instead of keeping it internal?

And I want to buy a SSD for the OS and games but to buy one big enough for all my steam games would be too expensive. The technology is still too new unfortunately.
