This is the guy finishing up Robert Jordan's WoT series, his series is very different, but really good.
I've just finished the first book of the trilogy, and it was excellent.

Its planned to be a trilogy of trilogies eventually. I remember recommending this series on amazon to someone looking for books, know it wasn't you but I've been wondering what they thought about it. Just finished the three for a second time yesterday and it was quite enjoyable

wrong, the next book takes place 300 years later, in the same world. It won't center around the same characters. His own website continues to call it a trilogy, so that's how it stands.
