uhhhhhhh what? i was 13 when i entered 9th grade. i did not skip grades.

If his birthday is in September he would enter Kindergarten the month that he turns 6 since you have to be 5 and he won't be 5 at the cutoff date(September 1st in Texas).
1st grade he will turn 7
2nd grade he will turn 8
3rd grade he will turn 9
4th grade he will turn 10
5th grade he will turn 11
6th grade he will turn 12
7th grade he will turn 13
8th grade he will turn 14
Now, take into consideration that parents in most states are given the option of starting Kindergarten a year late and you get a kid who turns 15 during 8th grade without doing anything wrong.

Yes, but it's a fair guess that a kid who is 15, in 8th grade, and gets shot by the cops for bringing a gun to school and threatening them with it, did not simply start school really late

same here in MA...
my son was born on sept 13th...his close friend was born august 29th...they were PISSED when kindergarten started and they were separated!
i understand the spirit of the rule, but there needs to be some gray area...or at the very least an assessment for kids within a month of the date.
i went through school before the stupid rules...and college was a PITA as a 17yo for 2 months!

I started school a year late cause I have a November birthday, so I turned 18 my jr year.
now this shooting is justified, kid shouldn't have been stupid.
