speaking of actraiser did anyone else play actraiser 2? seemed like everyone hated that game because it was hard and lacked the world building. i missed the world building but i found the difficulty refreshing. i think that game on the hardest difficulty was the first in a while to give me a bit of a challenge i'd felt had been missing since the jump from nes to snes.

Dragon Warrior for the old NES! I loved that game. I Played I and IV.
wouldn't really count among the unknown classics though, those games were very well known and played.
also, you really missed out if you didn't play DW3. so much so i seriously suggest finding it and playing it now. it was the best of the ones released for the nes.

I disagree that DW3 was the best. I think DW4 was the best. I loved how the game was divided up into 5 chapters and that you didn't really start your main character until the fifth chapter.

it was the second best in my opinion. the customization possibilities, story and return to DW1's world put 3 ahead for me. 4 was a very close second though.
each to their own though. i have a friend who absolutely loved 2 and i thought it was the worst of the lot.

4 had a more fleshed out storyline.
3 had better character customization.
2 is easily the hardest.
Mad respect for anybody who beats that game without a walkthrough(only using the maps and stuff that came with the game)

I beat DW2 with only the maps that came with the game. I was about 13 or 14 at the time. I played the hell out of that game.

Yeah I was ~10 when it came out.
To this day I have no idea how I found the patience to get some of the things hidden in there(the mirror is the first thing that comes to mind... iirc I searched every single square in areas that you could see the rivers)
Much like burning all of the bushes in Zelda I must have had a lot more patience when I was a kid.
edit: I also remember the final cave having a ton of stuff that killed you in one hit

I remember spending a lot of time grinding near the house of healing in the final cave until that didn't happen anymore.
