Good because if a Republican gets elected you'll be waiting a lot longer.

I think your employer must lay you off before you can get COBRA benefits. It's very expensive too.

I was thinking something similar and I know it is expensive. I think it was around $700ish when I got RIF'd from my last job and that was just for me...

It's at full cost, so it includes your contribution as well as your employer's.

Cobra can be taken no matter what the reason for leaving (you don't have to be laid off.)

Right now the Insurance business is refusing lots of people, and for you its your age, gender and past medical issues enough that they think you're too high a risk.

You can get Insurance once you're in school but it will only cover you so you may have to eat the cost of Cobra till you can get that then have BT and the boys get a regular policy.

If you go back to school, they offer health insurance a really cheap rate. Grant it, it doesn't cover much but it's good in a catastrophic condition.

There are low-cost clinics in my community (and others). They are often subsidized through government funding in some form or fashion, but I'm sure not if that's always the case. Usually they are like $20 for a walk in basic visit (sinus infection, earache, etc) nothing that would take x-rays or specialist.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield had an emergency only plan when I was looking. I think it was like $50 a month with a high deductible, but it would help cover that catastrophe. I ended up going with a temporary 90 day plan that was $100 a month until my work benefits kicked in. It had a prescription discount plan. However, I didn't use it for my Urgent Care visit because it was cheaper to pay cash and wouldn't have made a difference since the deductible was so high.

Your state might also have cheap plans that are sometimes partially subsidized depending on income. This might not be something that is right for your family, but in Florida you can get health/dental insurance for your child from $10-$150 a month depending on your income through a state program. Maybe you can piece something together from a few different providers to get the best deal for your family.

Posts like this make me want to move back to Canada. It is really sad that someone is limited in pursuing their life dreams/bettering themselves because of a lack of healthcare options Sorry you are in this position Serena, I hope you find something.

I just went from April to November without insurance after having insurance steadily since I was 17. For the first time in years I had to go to the ER and it cost over $8k. Makes me wish I lived in Canada.

Doesn't believe in socialized health care? What does that have to do with Sarena not being unable to find PAID health insurance?

You're the only one making those connections. It has nothing to do with socialized care and everything to do with Obama specifically trying to stop the denial of coverage due to preexisting conditions, which is happening here and which he was demonized by the right for trying to do.
