In most of the labs I've hung out with or encountered, it's common to have a Friday afternoon "happy hour"...so I'm pretty sure geologists aren't the only scientists boozing it up at work.

The scientists I work with now have it booked in the calendar as a "liquid-handling meeting".

At my lab we have "fluid dynamics seminars."

Going to meetings about your drinking makes you an alcoholic, not how much you drink.

Having a couple of drinks after work frequently might make you a drunk though.

Depends upon whether you enjoy them or not. If you don't enjoy them both during and after drinking them, you are a probably a drunk.

Depending on the drinkers weight, 2-3 drinks might not even come close to "drunk."

I would in general not define someone who has 2-3 3-4/7 an alcoholic.

how about 2/3 drinks an hour, after work, 3-7 times a week?

I would say no because 2-3 drinks would barely even get you buzzed if you did that 3-4 times a week.

It's entirely different for each individual, but those 2-3 drinks could easily turn into 4-5 and then 6-8 and then 10+
