We should be clear though, no politician is popular right now. Hell, a lot of liberals are upset with Obama about various things (which is reflected in the approval rating), but will go to the polls to vote against Gingrich or Romney in a heartbeat. Politics is bulls**t right now.

Not so sure about that. Like someone said, it's still early.

Just look at Obama in 08. He was a nobody until he won the primary then he picked up momentum and took the election running away.

To be fair, he had name recognition from speaking years earlier and he had a MASSIVE youth/grass roots movement behind him in Iowa.

Gingrich is a southern boy who bet a Yankee (Romney) in a neigboring southern state, BFD.

It matters because the economy isn't going to magically recover itself. The policy set today and over the next four years will have a major impact on how long it takes to recover.

I like how everyone focuses on the president at all times when his powers are limited compared to congress. I don't get it with you America, I try to understand but it just doesn't make any sense.

It's not worth trying to understand as we are so far off the rails that any attempt at understanding will lead to apoplexy as to how we got here. (Unless of course you really value history, are willing to do a lot of your own research and willing to risk apoplexy when the realizations of each horribly wrong turn we took becomes apparent)

We need a violent reset. That is the long and short of it. More of the same isn't acceptable and anyone who thinks it is, is either an establishment hack or in cowardice of what needs to be done. Because where we are at is already not pretty and it is not going to get any better while treading the same path.

Ferrydust is correct about the attitudes of partisans. It does matter because the independents will not be so predictable. Gingrich's demagoguery plays very well with tea partiers and he has managed to convince a lot of the religious right that he has changed his ways. But with independent thinkers his record speaks for itself. Romney is far from an excellent choice but choosing Gingrich will probably lose the Republicans some seats in Congress.

Gas prices are likely to skyrocket and then Obama will not look so solid. A conservative activist court agreed with Romney that "Corporations are people, my friend" so superpacs will be a factor. There is a lot of time left before the fat lady sings. The drama has barely started.
