So what does that say about Gingrich then? He's such a bad candidate that an unpopular president is 18 points more popular? Guess his disapproval rating must be in the 70s!

We should be clear though, no politician is popular right now. Hell, a lot of liberals are upset with Obama about various things (which is reflected in the approval rating), but will go to the polls to vote against Gingrich or Romney in a heartbeat. Politics is bulls**t right now.

Not so sure about that. Like someone said, it's still early.
Just look at Obama in 08. He was a nobody until he won the primary then he picked up momentum and took the election running away.
