Fozzie, did you just get a bad one?
My wife and I got identical ones and the touchscreens went on them both and since I had the insurance we got new identical phones that ALSO had the same thing happen. I met a kid in class that had the exact same phone and the exact same problem and when he went to the VZ store they said the model he had wasnt made anymore and that they could "offer" him a newer phone from the same manufacturer. The phone was identical to the old ones we all had but with a new name and lo and behold the problem never surfaced on it.
after that I said screw Samsung

Wait, how did they screw you? It seems like they had a phone that was defective (that never happens with new tech  ) and when they found out they had a problem they fixed it and renamed it?  So when the same thing happened to your replacement phones what happened?

Didn't say they screwed me. What I did was limp along till I could get a new phone and then I got this HTC Thunderbolt. My wife got a droid.

What does limp along mean? You said the first replacement was also defective. So you just kept using a defective phone? Still confused as I'm in the market for a new phone and Samsung was on the list.

Sorry let me be more clear as to the nature of the defect. The phones screen degraded over time rather than failing all at once.
