Yes. Our front door was kicked in while I was out getting some lunch with my then two month old. I walked in the back door, laid my food on the kitchen cabinet so I could step back out and grab the baby when I looked up - the darkness wasn't right. The front door was open enough to shine light on the tile. The only thing missing was the DirecTV box. Police figured that they heard me unlocking the back door and took off. That was on a Friday, I had an alarm installed the following Monday.

It sounds like you just need a serious reevaluation of your entry points and solidify them as opposed to an alarm initially.
Always lock the interior garage door and add a new lock if needed. You have no idea how many ways there are to get in a garage.

Just a cheap set of detectors for glass breaking and door opening, but I have it hooked up to air horns from two old fire trucks.
It doesn't summon the police, but it does stun the burglars and alert the neighborhood. Considering the pain it creates, someone is bound to call the police to complain.

Yes, ADT. Ever since I got robbed in a blanket sweep of our quiet neighborhood. It felt good that our neighborhood watch (attentive neighbors not any kind of organized thing) had the police out there pretty quick but they still cleaned me out and being new to the neighborhood they didn't realize I had been hit until later that night when I called the police out to make a report. Even a quiet, low crime, area can get hit as they tend to run in packs and sweep neighborhoods nowadays. Kind of scary really.

The house is wired with alarms at the 3 entry points: front door, garage door, and sliding glass door. There's also a couple of the movement sensor alarms in the house that will activate if there's movement once the alarm is set. The alarm system does a *very* good job of beeping/chirping when any one of these doors is open. If we don't get to the alarm fast enough, it does a great job of making tons of noise (thankfully that's only happened once). We've also got 2 dogs that react to every freaking noise that involves a door.
