I'm so glad we can spend $40k so some couple can propagate their infertile genes while kids go un-adopted and/or without healthcare. How can anyone be against that?

Wars are fought for power, no other reason. The only thing that changes is the groups trying to gain control. Religion happens to be an emotionally charged topic that makes a good campaign slogan but we'd be perfectly happy to kill each other over skin color, accent, nationality, language, clothing, etc. I know the big secular circle jerk is fashionable these days, but you have to be blind to not realize that religion is just a team name and not the driving force behind why everyone came to play. And your flat out ignorant if you think secular groups aren't just as happy to get a little blood on their hands...

I think you are going over old material with more passion than is needed. Sure secularists kill. And sure behind most "religious" wars or atrocities you'll find someone not particularly devout pulling the strings. Hitler and the murder of Jews, Homosexuals, Trade Union Leaders, Gypsies, and others is a good example. Was Hitler religious or just out for power? I think we all agree it was power that primarily motivated Hitler. But religion, and religious fervor, gave him an excuse and the momentum to slaughter a lot of people.

So what? The Pope of the Church who stood aside as millions died is still a hypocrite on this issue.

You do realize that a huge part of the Catholic Churches stand on Contraception stems from the simple fact that within MODERN history the sitting President of the United States (Woodrow Wilson, such a nice man) attempted to use Federally Funded Contraception specifically and intentionally as a way to reduce the population of "undesireable" Italian and Polish Catholics in the US in order to prevent them from gaining political power and threatening his white anglo saxon progressivism (that forms the basis for the modern Democrats).

Run that one through your heads again. Within the 20th century the President of the US openly felt that Catholics were "undesireables" who's numbers and breeding need to be reduced. And he took steps to utilize the public health laws of the US to achieve this goal. (You can imagine his views on the black folk).

So given that history, you can imagine just how well the Sebelius mandate is going over with the Bishops, can't you? It is essentially Wilson's program carbon copied.

As far as fertility goes. The actual real Catholic position is a bit more nuanced. Yes Catholics strongly support research and treatments for infertility. Where the church has issues is some of the more ethically or philosophically greyer areas. Things like Surrogate mothers. The church maintains that there should be a clear unambiguous and responsible chain of parentage. Both legal and biological. While a more conservative stand then some would like, it is not an unreasonable one. Such is the most basic building block of our societies.
