Historically, if you look at the Pope's history, you see they changed the bible to make the Pope essentially god on earth. It was an ego and power based changed and this is part of the reason why you ended up with a Western and Eastern Roman Empire.

shutting down artificial insemination does have some positives... the planets already dealing with a human overpopulation issue thats only going to get worse this slows the problem albeit not by much.

So, wait...let me see if I have this right.
Infertility treatments are bad. Sex is the only way you *should* procreate.
But you should only have sex in order to procreate.
Thus, if you know that sex will not result in a child, you should not have sex with your spouse. Because sex for pleasure is bad.
Therefore, all infertile couples should just be celibate and be happy about it.
But also, even though treating infertility is bad, the church encourages research into it...

who determines if you have NO chance of having a child? I'd say only God could and thus nobody but God could tell you that you have NO chance of ever conceiving a child by having sex with your spouse.
On the OTHER hand and more to the point... if the only way to conceive of a child is through sex... how did Jesus end up getting born to Mary? Is that not artificial insemination?
