Its probably because you vote for whoever has the R regardless of actually knowing anything about them. That part makes you a good republican.
I never vote for someone I know nothing about. Many times the republican I vote for is merely a better choice than whoever he or she is running against.

The ethanol in the gas is very heavily subsidized. The corn used to make it is subsidized and congress has mandated a huge percentage of our corn crop to be used in the production of ethanol, also, there are big tariffs on importing ethanol.

I didn't say that I'd never heard of them. Democrats yammer about them all the time. What I don't see is what it is that they are actually doing for subsidies.
Cash? Tax breaks? What?

But short supplies at U.S. dealerships and some missteps in rolling the vehicles out to U.S. dealers weighed on sales last year. The vehicle's relatively high price tag—$41,000 before a $7,500 government rebate—also kept many consumers away.

Pretty sure that GM never wanted this car to be successful. That was evident in the pushing of a lease-only platform and its price. It was just a show.

There is nothing wrong with the government subsidizing industry to make them work on national goals.
For instance, the first transcontinental railroad was financed by Uncle Sam giving away land along the rail way to the corps building it because the nation needed coast to coast transportation and it need to open up intercontinental resources.
Agricultural extensions aid farmers and ranchers to make them more productive, ie. profitable, because, it's in the nations best interest to feed itself.
The only reason the Republican plutocracy is against subsidizing the Volt is their not getting donations from plutocrats that support it.
It's very interesting to note that three of the top GOP running for the president each have a billionaire supporting them.
Except for Ron Paul and he will not accomplish anything.
