It's news because of the kids, he screwed them hard. They'll need therapy.

As a father who is broken up with my childs mother, I disagree. I am still in his life and will always be. Nothing indicates that he doesn't want to be a father to them anymore. And honestly, citing shows like intervention, I think they are alot of retroactive parent problems. No one wants to blame themselves, especially addicts. No one had a perfect childhood, and when things get really tough because of a sh*tty choice we made, it's only a matter of time before you start picking things to blame. I have alot of personal experience with addicts and addiction, and the majority of my experience says that people tend to blame their past in an attempt to rise above it. My dad hit me, and if I started shooting up all the time, it's an inevitability that I would choose to blame him for his mistakes over blaming myself for my mistakes.

Think about the major things that put stress in a relationship, things like fidelity are obvious, but the biggest one is money. It get's stressful and families are expensive. It should come as no surprise that there are more poor kids being raised by separated parents, and many of the issues you describe, in my opinion, come from the culture of poverty. (this is not assigning blame, of course, just saying what I notice)

I am that guys age, and even if I was single I wouldn't go there

ever

18 to me is still a kid

I don't care what the law says, you are taking advantage of a kid

at least that's the way I would feel

I don't think I would even considering dating someone under.. 30? maybe even that is pushing it.. 20's as well can GTFO..

might be ok to look at .. but that is it . I agree.. this guys is a dirtbag.. and this is secondary to the damage he has done to his own family

I guess I was trying to see his side of the whole "18" thing,, I can't, she is still WAYYY to young

It's just a tacky way to phrase it, making it seem like he left a perfect dream life just to boink a young girl. I can't imagine having a really happy marriage that I leave for some inexperienced poon. I mean, there totally is the creep factor from the idea that he probably started when she wasnt legal, and that it's nearly impossible for there not to be a power imbalance in the relationship, but it is totally tacky to make it "more of a story" by insinuating, straight up SAYING that the guy just ditched his family. I'm not going to assume in his defense at all, but the story would be alot different if she, say, cheated on the dude and he was just going to leave her anyways. The story would be different if he's still making a big effort to be around his kids, but it doesn't say any of that, just that he "left his wife AND kids" (he didnt necessarily leave his kids, there are more ways to be a good dad than sleeping under the same roof, and if the relationship was negative and there were alot of fights, he was being a GOOD father by separating)

EDIT: And Brandun, I am 25 and even I feel like 18 is too young.

Youth in urban areas often are missing one or both parents, they need mentors to steer them to a right path. I watch Intervention and a lot of those kids are very negatively affected by a parent not being there due to drugs. They lose out on their childhood because they have to take on the role of the responsible parent if the real parent is being irresponsible. Then there are people who get emotionally wrecked when a beloved caretaker passes away, it could mess them up very badly. My mom only ever had one person in her life that cared for her, when she died it really hurt her. Her dad was never there and never cared for her, her mom never cared much for her. She was a messed up kid.

RESPECT HIS AUTHROTIE!!

He watches a "reality" show so he should be an expert on the subject just like Im an expert on Italian-Americans because I watch the Jersey Shore. Snooki and J-wow are my heroes!
