Seems ikk and I both agree on something. At least parents should not split for the wrong reasons. And this is the wrong reason. I don't however think parents should stay together just for the sake of the kids. Children don't need to learn some of the things they see in a bad relationship.

Youth in urban areas often are missing one or both parents, they need mentors to steer them to a right path. I watch Intervention and a lot of those kids are very negatively affected by a parent not being there due to drugs. They lose out on their childhood because they have to take on the role of the responsible parent if the real parent is being irresponsible.
Then there are people who get emotionally wrecked when a beloved caretaker passes away, it could mess them up very badly. My mom only ever had one person in her life that cared for her, when she died it really hurt her. Her dad was never there and never cared for her, her mom never cared much for her. She was a messed up kid.

It cites some pretty old studies and I wonder how much of it is still true, however, saying that children are not hurt by divorce is ignorant.
Some recover better than others, but it does affect them.
