I worked at a furniture store in high school. I didn't know enough about the furniture to really be able to sell it nor did I really care about it either. My manager was a pretty huge bitch

I usually was pretty honest about the crap they sold if I was asked, but we sold some pretty good crap to be honest compared to most furniture places. Plus I didn't know if it was crap or not, I just moved the crap

Did you at least bang your bitchy boss on one of the furniture pieces you were selling?

I mean...at least for points?

I worked at the Disney Store once. It really wasn't that bad. We didn't have service plans and warranties to push on people.

One of my first jobs was working at K-Mart for a couple years in the early 80s.

Yeah, but I worked at Banana Republic. I liked their stuff and got an OK discount, so I didn't feel guilty encouraging people to buy socks so I could push up my UPT for the day.

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'
Elitist.

I also did stadium sales at SeaWorld. Forgot about that.

I walked up and down in Shamu Stadium selling pirate crap for kids. Glow in the dark earrings, necklaces, swords and stuff.

Great job. I was the only guy in the department, like 70 girls and me, and I outsold all of them. 3% commission too. Doesn't sound like much but I was moving close to 2 grand of that crap a day. 60 bucks was a bit of cash back then.

Place was crazy, as soon as the park closed, everyone got blitzed every night, parties everywhere, it was like college without the classes or tests and they paid you to show up.

Blockbuster had about 6 employees when I worked there. They had our sales up on a huge whiteboard, and if you didn't sell you'd get fired.

The job was great, but Blockbuster is a corporate blood sucking fiend

Ten long, horrible,soul-crushing years. Worked just about every position there was. And yes, they pushed warranties in electronics. They also pushed surveys and credit cards at any register. Only the old/confused would agree to that kind of stuff... I tried sparing the old people as much as I could and still keep my job.

Big retail will suck the life out of you and spit you out for many reasons, not just the cards and warranties.
