What do you expect from the Government?

What do you think the government's involvement should be in your life, well being, health, security, material success, education, etc?
I think most of what you guys argue about here comes down to differing expectations about what the hell Government is supposed to do.

To protect the borders, to maintain the transit systems (rail, road, ect), to ensure a good education level for all citizens, to provide for the least of it's citizens ie the mentally and/or physically disabled, ect

Which government? The federal government should strictly be for homeland security. The states shall than over rule the federal government on just about anything.
In my mind the state government shall maintain infrastructure, and nothing else. However it is the right of the states to draft their own legislation.

I expect the government to lie, cheat, and steal their way to the largest possible power bases they can obtain. I expect them to work closely with the wealthy to ensure they obtain this at the expense of its citizens. In other words, all of my expectations have been met and will continue for the foreseeable future.

between the feds, state and counties, I have $200k in AR, that is what the hell I want, it has gotten so bad I am refinancing my house so I won't have to struggle with the payroll every two weeks

when you take government contracts you have to expect that it will take at least twice as long to get paid.
