The fact that it's a Harley should stop you from buying, new or used.

Mangler had an accident on the way home from the liquor store. He was run off the road and crashed into a woman's clinic. It was one giant Pabst smear.

beyond the most major downside of being a Harley?

well, you have maintenance cost covered, but i also factor in down time.
takes time to fix...
time and cost to travel to get it fixed...is it at least close to you?
does it cover transportation when you cant bring it yourself?
parts are expensive...

itr depends on what era the bike was made. pre- AMF harleys were decent bikes. they got the rep for being maintenance hogs when they were owned by AMF, (the old joke of "how can you tell where a harley went? just follow the oil / parts trail" started then) the quality really improved when the workers bought the company.

after having an neighbor with a harley, I would NEVER want to own one. That guy has to mess with that bike EVERY single time he wants to ride it.
