I bet child protective services thinks different.

You cant have someone's kids taken away from them just because the parent is ill. The parent has to present a significant danger to the child (like has threatened to or actually hurt the child), you cant just say "oh she's Schizophrenic, she might hurt her kid" and BAM! In swoops CPS to take the child away. After all, perfectly sane parents can snap and hurt their kids, its just as likely to happen as a mentally ill parent hurting their child.

not really

if you're already over the edge, you don't have as far to go.

Also you can have your kids taken away if the parent is deemed not mentally fit to raise them. If you're talking about being afraid of the boogie man.. Just do the right thing and don't have kids.

So you're saying that if somebody broke in, your infant baby would be in danger on the ground floor but would be perfectly safe on the top floor, because we all know intruders have a fear of stairs?

You've displayed a complete lack of rational thought in this thread

No, im not saying that. Im saying that if someone broke in i would hear them (no really, im that light a sleeper!), and it would be easier to go grab the kid and call 911 if they are upstairs with me than go downstairs and confront the intruder in order to keep the kid safe.

OK, you are just making this too easy...

You are too afraid of a shadow man WHO DOES NOT EXIST to get your meds, but you would be able to stand up to an intruder WHO DOES EXIST?

What the eff.

um, guys, this is why it's called MENTAL ILLNESS.

Soo... this post totally reminded me of Paranormal Activity...

Also, wouldn't it be a safe bet that you're having an episode and need to take your meds & talk to your Dr?

This is just breakthrough psychosis, it happens from time to time. I told my therapist about it yesterday afternoon (its been going on a couple of nights on and off), she wasnt worried, just told me to keep taking my meds and to call if things got out of hand.

This should worry YOU a great deal.

and as far as the different floors thing goes, lots of people use baby monitors, I may not affect you, but what happens when you have some OTHER kind of psychosis? it's not like this is the ONLY thing you've ever gone batsh*t insane over... you were seeing spiders a month or so ago. Next it could be anything. Your disease is not under control in any fashion or form, and you sound like an alcoholic that's rationalizing their drinking.

Honestly? If we all freaked out every time i had breakthrough psychosis (which usually only lasts a few days and is usually either voices and/ or hallucinations), we (me, Wolfz and my psych docs) would always be freaking out. My shrink says (by the way, i trust HER to say whether it is under control over you, someone who just knows bits about me from a messageboard, and who is not a doctor etc) that my illness IS under control, im just likely to get the odd bit of breakthrough psychosis now and then. If she isnt worried, im not going to worry, given that she sees this sh*t and deals with it on a DAILY basis.

As for a baby, i do plan to have one, right now we're just waiting a bit longer for me to get more weight off, and to do some trial runs with new med combos etc (basically finding out how little i can get by on to minimize the risk to the baby). Probably be about a year before we can actively start trying. Maybe less if we get lucky.

Do think long and hard before having a child. Beyond any possible genetic risks... having a Mother who is not mentally well can have severe consequences for the child. You -have- to be 100% on your med intake -all of the time- once you have a kid. There's no "Maybe I'll be okay". You either set in stone in your mind that you will control it; or you stop thinking about children.

I've had my own dealings with a mentally unstable mother... and I've seen the effects of it on others. You do not want to responsible for the consequences that can come. It doesn't stop at 18 either. Cousin of mind was going to be a surgeon... she had the knowledge and the desire to do so; she ended up having to drop out because she missed too many classes to go home to take care of her mother who had fallen off the wagon...

I don't say this to be mean. This is one of the few times I'll be serious on ACF.

Yup, she even went as far as to say that she's treated patients with worse cases than mine, who have successfully had kids.

Right, I am mostly sane, and was getting an ok amount of sleep for a new parent, 5 hrs, but your brain does funny stuff when sleep deprived.
