audiobooks just aren't my thing I guess.
i find it depends very heavily on the reader. you can have a fairly bad book read by a great reader and its good. and a bad reader can ruin the most epic book.
very true, I certainly can't listen to the ones that are monotone.
i use those to fall asleep at night
best readers i can remember right off the top of my head were Claudia Black, Tim Curry and James Marsters. Marsters does the dresden files and while he was kinda stiff for the first few books he really got better as the series went on. Claudias voice is just candy for the ears and Tim Curry did an old recording of some of the Dune prequels and was just awesome with getting into each of the characters and making them come alive rather than just reading the dialog.

I've had the dresden files for ages and never gotten around to listening.

I thought he was good as well. Listened to him when I had my laser eye surgery.

Cool. This one is currently in my Amazon cart (Kindle version). Was on the fence on whether to buy and read it or not.

There's some delight in ale and wine,
And some in girls with ankles fine,
But my delight, yes, always mine,
Is to dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

The original Dune changed the way I view the world. It added a lot of complexity to my view of relationships, choices, destiny verses self-determinism, energy, and had huge sandworms that could eat a bus. As an ecologist the world of Dune and the people who made their way in it was inspiring. It sounds trite - but I believe it.
Then Frank's son went and effed it up.
