maybe I should have been more clear.
after a couple months, when the child becomes alert and aware of whats going on around them.
the more aware they become, most babies will figure out "hey if i cry my needs are meet."
after a while some babies will learn to fake cry to get attention.
a child doesn't need to be picked up every single time it cries, check on them, but otherwise you will end up with a toddler that wants to be carried all the time.

I'm wild and a little crazy too
I have seen a lot of things in my life time.

another tip dont pick the child up every time it cries, if all of its needs have been met.( I know this goes against parental instincts)
trust me, you dont want to end up with a needy baby that always has to be held.
Infants aren't needy/clingy under a certain age, and certainly not as newborns. If they cry, there's a reason, and no reason not to pick them up. In fact, studies have shown the opposite- more contact with mom/dad makes for a more confident, well adjusted baby/child. Crying and not having their emotional needs met at such a young age can be detrimental, emotionally and mentally. Repeated studies have confirmed this. And you say you're studying child psychology? WTF kind of backwards program are you in??

Pick up your baby when he cries!
ABSOLUTELY 1000% with Gaev
A child under the age of six months old is NOT manipulating you with their cries. No such thing as holding them too much! They are communicating something to you that can not be said with words.
Congratulations Mal and Loth Liam is beautiful! Truly...
