Regular does not mean leaded. Regular is in reference to the size of the octane.
When unleaded gas was first introduced, however, people referred to the then-choices as "Regular, High Test (premium) and Unleaded".

as long as i have bought gas, 99.9% of which has been in New England, REGULAR was the term used for 87 octane gas.
i do remember seeing LEADED gas sparingly way back when, but that was NOT called regular.
just got gas yesterday morning, sign says REGULAR...hell you even gave a breakdown of the term.
now that Sith has edited the OP, the thread was clarified.

i also call unleaded gas regular now but i call diesel fuel "fuel" and i call soda pop "soda"
