I read about that the other day...absolutely disgusting.

"Oh we love her soooo much, but we would have aborted her had we known she had Down Syndrome. We want money!"

Test was negligently performed, thereby changing what the couple would have done. In the long run, by keeping the fetus, due to the results of the negligently run test, they'll be paying quite a bit in child care.

This isn't an abortion issue, like the attorney stated, this is about a negligently handled medical procedure.

I don't see a problem with the case, or its outcome, but I guess that is because I think abortion is acceptable as long as the parents agree it is the right thing to do. They had a test done, the test was wrong, because of this they have to live with the results. whether they love their child now or not isn't the issue. The issue is the test and how it was administered.

Wait...whats disgusting about this?

This is one of the best examples of when you SHOULD sue someone I have ever seen.

Doctors botched the entire job. Incorrect samples taken, incorrectly read results, etc. Couple is assured that the child does not have downs syndrome.

Child born with downs syndrome and a lifetime of associated costs anyway. OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO SUE.

What planet do you live on that its ok for doctors to give false life changing information due to negligence?

Good.

There are presently folks lobbying to make it legal for Dr.s to withhold this kind of information from parents intentionally so as to lessen the chance of an abortion. The precedent of the story in the OP needs to be here as an example of why that sort of legislation must never EVER come to pass.
