Terrible idea. I guess I can understand wanting to relax and get away when you finally DO get some spare cash, but it doesn't mean you have to (or even should) do it.

When you have lived paycheck to paycheck for so long, you lose sight of the long term and end up taking whatever you can get when you can get it.

Been there.

My x is like that. She is so horribly behind on everything but when taxes come up it is like "Oh I can go get that <whatever unneeded appliance/electronics catches her eye> now" or whatever. It amazes me.

FYC: save the money for when you get fired next time (has been fired from the last 4 jobs)
Idiot: lol ya right

Well if he is working and getting by paycheck to paycheck he is still getting by. I want to know who died and made it any of your business to judge.

I can understand why, I have no willpower to save money. The only way I have ever succeeded in saving is having someone else hold the money, or putting it someplace I can't spend it (401k). Knowing what will happen if I don't have a spending plan, I make a plan to buy things that I need, pay off bills, or things I have wanted for a while. Otherwise it'll get spent on eating out, clothing, booze etc and have nothing to show for it when it's gone.

So maybe this is his way of making sure he gets something worthwhile out of the money. I'm sure he knows that saving the money makes more sense, but also knows his personal limitations.

Well you know what they say, you gotta spend money to make money.

However I doubt a vacation in Mexico is what they had in mind
