I have a nook plus a Samsung tablet with Kindle and nook apps on it. I love them both.

I really like my kindle, but I wasn't at the point of paying for one. I got it as a gift.
If you like older books, there are a huge amount of free ones.
Newer books it seems like they are raising the prices to normal book cost, and I'd prefer to have the actual book if I'm paying full price.

We have 2 kindle fires. They get used everyday for reading, games, surfing, homework and movies. The only con I have is there are no current apps for parental controls. We limit the usage on the kids Fire at the router level so its manageable.

If you're talking about a tablet, your phone does all that - and you got the gigantic old man screen just for that reason
