well they shot themselves in the foot when they decided to release ebook at the same time as hardcover. so they destroyed their hardcover sales. they should have pushed the ebook release dates out like they do paperback and then priced the ebooks similar to the paperbacks.
I'm surprised more publishers/distributors aren't requiring this. Kind of like big screen vs DVD release. Give the physical books time to disseminate before releasing the digital copy or at the very least put a premium on them (which seems to be hit or miss right now) until they go paperback.

having watched the big publishing companies idiotic antics for the last decade i can honestly say its because they're all a bunch of morons. just about everything they've done in the past decade has done nothing but further sabotage themselves.

my econ professor was talking about publishers wanting to eliminate printed books as much as possible.
why spend the money to print books, when you can charge the same thing for a digital file that takes no effort or cost to replicate.

Because then the authors actually need your money to distribute their story.
When e-books can be easily uploaded like user-made apps some of the dependency on publishers is eliminated.
