They're great for your average user and editing graphics/video/sound/etc. If you play games, want to fiddle with the machine, or generally have more freedom, it's a little less ideal. They're ok, but I personally wouldn't make one my go-to machine.

I use an imac at work, but I don't need any proprietary software, or a lot of hardware power. Right out of the box, it's better than any windows user experience. I use a windows machine at home because I like to play games. Aside from gaming, I would prefer a mac.

For the most part, I think everyone hating on mac has never used one. I was like that once too, until my company bought me a mac. I love it now. Though outside of work, I would have a hard time justifying the premium price for what is often inferior interior hardware, but the screens and aluminum bodies rock. And the majority of users would prefer a stronger user experience than have access to the best hardware upgrades or special software. People are lazy, they want to be happy with what comes right out of the box which I think is rarely the case with most PC's.

Pretty well the same thing I said with a different spin (and nicer about it)

99% of people who have a MAC and feel the need to spout off about how amazing they are are technically incompetent.

Half the reason the MACs are 'so good' is because they spoon feed you and hold your hand through everything. People who know nothing can still figure things out.

You spout this like it's a bad thing. You do know that the majority of home users aren't the technological advanced type people you find on the boards.

We own 3 macs. My 2006 Imac which I have never had crash and is still running like a champ (even through the abuse of two toddlers), my wife has a macbook and I have a macbook pro.

...and yet here we are discussing it on the boards.

I guess it works for your needs. I don't have toddlers, I game, and I don't have a fortune to waste on sh**ty hardware...so yes, I take a much different approach to this.

I've recommended Apple computers to people before because I didn't want to deal with their technical issues (like my aunts/uncles/cousins). "Go to the geniuses...they'll do it for you." I THINK Reapist MIGHT be smarter than them...

Too expensive for what you get hardware wise. Why would I want to pay more for a inferior machine?

When people say that apple computers are "better" than pc's, I don't understand what they mean.

You see, I've been using Windows since I was about 11 years old. I know how to do everything in Windows. Well, most things. I'm comfortable with it, flaws and foibles and all.

If you gave me an apple computer with the apple OS on it, I would just be confused and it would be the opposite of better to me.

Plus that and limited third party support puts me off. Walk into almost any retail store and the PC stuff goes on for miles and miles, the Apple stuff is like...one thing, if you're lucky.

Friend's laptop died (wasn't plugged into power, battery was drained) and she said

"I thought it was powered by the Internet"

So we're really deal with the crème de la crème here for comparison.

THESE are the people I send to Apple.

considering most computer stores have bigger isles for mouse pads than they have for Apple software, I'll stick with PC

that's too true, however, look at the mouse products they carry: ALL logitech and microsoft, with a smattering of generics - no high end peripherals.

Having worked on a few types of Mac's at work I don't particularly like them. Adding them to the domain took hours of research since the OS is effed... Setting up email from exchange required using the "Mail" program instead of outlook (Really Apple? Really?) and as stated above Apple is big on controlling what you can and can't do to the point I don't want to deal with them. Getting used to one took a little bit but that was only slightly aggravating... Not being able to properly use the product (Which cost WAY too effing much) because of flaws (yes, mac's have flaws too.) that almost nobody knows how to fix was the deal breaker.

And yes I have had a mac mini, macbook pro and mac pro crash on me... But oh right, mac's are perfect and so worth the cost
