Honestly, you're better off putting whatever you'd spend on a premium and putting it into a savings account that you earmark only for vet emergencies. Yeah, it won't help if the animal gets in trouble next week, but you figure at $50 a month, you've got $600 in a year. Add any extra that you can. The thing with insurance policies is that they're only good for the one pet. If your pet dies never needing the insurance, you're out a ton of money. If you put it in a savings account, your next pet can benefit from that money.

As to all of you saying that it's easier just to put an animal down, you've obviously never had one that was like family...

This is true for car insurance, medical insurance and life insurance... *shrug*

True, but most of those things will cost you MORE than a pet, in terms of medical bills, or repairs after a crash.

I learned that chicken killing dogs dont live long in the country.

This, Pet insurance is a massive waste of money. There is tons of fine print in those policies as well

The difference is that the average person is unlikely to be able to withstand the financial hit if a catastrophe occurs to their car, home, health, etc before they've had a chance to build up that savings. Most people can tolerate a few grand for a pet or the $50 to put a pet down...

Same here. i dont mind a few hundred to take care of minor stuff but more than that its an animal if i can buy a car for what it would take to "fix" the health issue ill pay to put the dog to sleep and go adopt a new one for the shelter. ( and the only money id spend on a cat is the cost of a bullet)

This thread begs the question: do the "women" of ACF use a funnel to get that much sand in their vagina or do they just slide around the beach like an angry Roomba? -deadcactus-

My daughter has Banfields pet insurance on all the dogs, not sure about the cats.

Like any insurance, you may or may not need it.

Trust me I feel bad after putting down a pet, especially dogs.

I wont even look a dog in the eyes anymore before I put them down. I made that mistake once and the look of that dog looking up to me still loyal to the end still haunts me.

Oh it wrecks me emotionally for dogs. but I still do it. And im not sure why i hate cats so much i just know i hate them to the point of almost being a sociopath about wanting them all to die.
