this is about the size and look (shape wise) of a ping pong ball. not a cake for sure. i think.
could be a non traditional style moon cake.
Mochi balls are about the size of your palm. They can be smaller as well.

Ping pong ball sounds the right size to be mochi. I have only ever had ice cream mochi so I am not sure if there is different varieties or not.
