I've been around a lot of kids...and I've never heard of anyone doing this.

I might have to ask someone just to make sure I wasn't left out of the loop or something. Or maybe it's a west-coast thing, you western people are weird after all.

and lol @ "I
just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish
steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped
outside, and some grated daikon". delicious breakfast? lol That sounds like the stuff that what I eat had for breakfast...or maybe what THAT ate for breakfast.

Trust me, its common. Ask your grand mother, she probably did it (Depending on her age).

No, my parents didn't do it and I don't really know anybody who does it now for obvious reasons, but it was common back in the day and still is common in a lot of other parts of the world, particularly poor countries.

I don't have any living grandparents. I don't doubt that people did it 50 years ago...it just seems silly to be doing it now. Why would you add any extra risk to your child by sharing your saliva with your 7 month old kid? It sounds like pure stupidity to me. seems like a great way to get your kid sick any time you're sick (and the symptoms aren't showing quite yet, as hopefully you would at least stop doing it by then).

Any mom with any common illness will expose the baby to it long before she has a chance to feed it. lol

Yeeesh, some people....

Maybe one of those things people feel the need to do.

Maybe not one of those things people need to talk about doing.

There are several cultures around the world that do this... for their entire village. Still.. blech
