I was next door this morning at the company adjacent to us.

I asked where Fred was

his boss told me he quit/got fired because he is off the wagon as he put it.

was in detox for 3 days and got out in the morning. He showed up for work that day already a few drinks in. The boss asked me if I ever talked to him, and could not understand a word he says.. that is true, but I didn't think it was because of booze.. how do you not smell it on him ?

wow.. that kind of life just has to suck

I like my beer, but I can wait unitl I get home

Yes, but it's much more common for them to just come in drunk. Or high, or under other influences. But not in a long time have I seen it.

never got drunk at work, when to work a few times where if I had to take a breathalyzer I would be legally drunk.

Other co-workers, heck yeah.

When i was still on-call, i worked an 8am-4pm shift with one of the full time bartenders. he came in a total wreck. Bloodshot eyes, shaking hands...could barely put together a rum and coke.

He told me he'd be back in a little while. This was 8:05am. At 8:45 am he was back, and it was a full 180...he was fine, smiling, joking, makin drinks like a pro.

Little did I know he went to a storage area with a cup of ice, grabbed a bottle of Bushmills off the shelf and polished off half of it.

The owner of my company has a bit of a drinking problem but has reduced it some over the years, mostly due to medical reasons. Several months ago he bought an old bowling alley and put a bar in it. Over this past weekend he killed a company car with a little drunk driving.

This thread begs the question: do the "women" of ACF use a funnel to get that much sand in their vagina or do they just slide around the beach like an angry Roomba? -deadcactus-

Of course. The financial guy at my company in Chicago was the best. He made me more money than the rest of the company put together some weeks, but he was a total drunk. By noon every day he was blotto. Going to lunch with him was an experience, he would polish off 6 or 7 Manhattans while eating a salad. Never tried to hide it, never lied about it, went home after lunch every day. Didn't care, he rocked at his job.

Sadly, he died very young (58) from a massive heart attack. Not sure if the drinking did it, but it probably didn't help.

I've worked in the food service industry for years after I retired from the Navy, so I had plenty of drunks working for me over that time. Everything from the total lush who got messed up all the time and didn't care who knew it, to the much more common "secret drinkers" who thought no one would notice. Some I kept on because their good days outweighed their occasional bad ones, most I had to let go.

Never really understood the whole drunk at work thing. I was a total lush and raging alcoholic for about 7 years and I never went into work messed up (Hungover to hell yes, drunk no). The thought of being at my job while messed up horrified me. When I started missing days so I could keep drinking, I stopped drinking so much. Big wake up call.
